The Real MVPs of Veterinary Medicine: Our Vet Techs
By Jesse Longo, Senior Director of Nursing at Bond Vet

October means Veterinary Technician Week, and honestly? A week doesn’t even come close to covering it. Our vet techs deserve recognition every single day for what they bring to this profession—and to the animals and families we serve.
It’s So Much More Than a Job
If you’ve ever wondered what a vet tech actually does, here’s the short answer: everything. In one shift, they might be monitoring anesthesia, assisting in surgery, running lab work, taking X-rays, cleaning teeth, teaching a nervous pet parent how to give medications at home, and comforting a scared dog in the treatment room.
But the real magic? It’s the stuff you can’t put in a job description. It’s staying calm when things go sideways in an emergency. It’s being a trusted partner to the veterinarian, making tough calls. It’s holding space for a pet parent on the worst day of their life and somehow knowing exactly what to say (or not say).
Why Vet Techs Are Everything
As veterinary medicine grows and changes, vet techs are becoming more specialized and more crucial than ever. They’re the reason we can provide excellent care, keep patients safe and comfortable, and build real trust with the communities we serve. They make it possible for veterinarians to focus on what they do best, and they make sure every patient is treated with compassion and respect.
Putting Our Money Where Our Mouth Is
At Bond Vet, we know that celebrating vet techs means actually investing in them—not just saying nice things once a year. That means real career growth, ongoing education, and fighting for the recognition this profession deserves.
And here’s something I’m particularly passionate about: licensure. Getting licensed isn’t just a checkbox—it’s validation of all the training, education, and skills that vet techs bring to the table. It’s a big step toward national title protection, which this profession desperately needs.
That’s why we’ve launched a program that covers 100% of the cost for any AVMA-accredited program. If you want to get your license, money shouldn’t be the thing standing in your way.
A Call to the Profession
To everyone working in veterinary medicine: let’s make this week count for something. Let’s actually commit to lifting up this profession—through advocacy, education, and building a culture where vet techs are valued the way they should be. The future of veterinary medicine literally depends on it.
And to our vet techs: thank you. For the exhausting shifts, the emotional toll, the tears you’ve cried behind closed doors, and the pure joy you bring to every patient who leaves healthier because of you. What you do isn’t just important—it’s incredible.
Happy Veterinary Technician Week to the people who make it all possible.
