Celebrating Pride at Bond Vet
Supporting Authenticity and Connection in Veterinary Medicine

At Bond Vet, we are committed to building a culture where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported—every day of the year. Pride Month is a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirm our dedication to creating a veterinary field where authenticity is embraced and inclusion is non-negotiable.
The veterinary profession is home to one of the most LGBTQ+-identifying workforces in healthcare, and we believe that representation, allyship, and education are essential to fostering a truly inclusive environment—one that supports both our teams and the clients and pets we serve.
This month, we’re proud to share the story of Jennifer, a valued member of the Bond Vet community. Her personal journey as the mother of a transgender daughter reminds us that inclusion begins with understanding, and that safe spaces help families grow stronger.
Jennifer’s children were raised in a supportive environment, surrounded by open-minded friends and family. So when her eldest child came out as transgender at age 27, Jennifer thought she was prepared. But she soon found herself working through emotions of grief and uncertainty—feelings many parents experience when their expectations are challenged by unexpected change.
“A name is a gift we give our children,” Jennifer shares. She named her child Aidan—the fiery one, inspired by a Gaelic character from her favorite novel. So when Aidan chose to become Lily, it was a difficult transition for Jennifer, who had attached her dreams for the future to that name.
Loving and supporting Lily meant that Jennifer had to first face her own grief, born of fear, societal pressures, and a sense of loss. But her love never wavered. Today, Lily is happily married to her wife Emma, and Jennifer continues to embrace her daughter’s identity with pride, compassion, and ongoing growth.
Her message to other parents: “Pause and reflect. Are your feelings rooted in your expectations—or in what your child truly needs?” Supporting a child through their journey takes time, love, and patience—not just for them, but for yourself. Build the support system you need to be the parent your child deserves.
Jennifer says she is proud to work at a place like Bond Vet, where inclusion isn’t just a statement—it’s a shared value that shows up in how we treat one another. By standing with our LGBTQ+ colleagues and their families, we help build a more compassionate, connected community—one where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
